Goals are beneficial in every aspect of your life, but a goal without a plan is just a wish and as said by Ben Franklin, when you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Far too often, people walk into the gym with no plan, or at the most a very vague goal like “I want to lose weight”. Without a specific goal, vision or a defined reason that you are doing what you are doing, it becomes very easy to get lost and discouraged. You will want to see results but won’t even know what type of results you are looking for. Do you want to lose fat? How many pounds? By what date? Are you keeping track of body measurements? Tracking how many inches you have lost from your waist? It’s easy to get discouraged and fall off the wagon when you don’t see the changes you want to see, but maybe you’re just not looking at the right thing. SMART Goals are a great way to ensure that you stay on the right track. SMART Goals are: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
